CMETB goes ‘Green’ for Climate Action

A ‘Go Green Day’ was held on Friday 13th May across the CMETB community to help raise awareness among staff and learners around what actions we can take to address Climate Change.

To mark the occasion staff wore something green on the day and took part in a quiz testing their knowledge on climate awareness. Suggestion boxes were available across CMETB offices and centres where staff and learners were able to give suggestions for sustainable actions that could be done within CMETB.

Many CMETB centres planted trees and flowers including CMETB FET Campus, Monaghan Institute, Ballyjamesduff Adult Education Centre, Carrickmacross Youthreach and Cavan Youthreach.

Sarah Gilsenan (Senior Staff Officer, Land and Buildings, CMETB) who organised the initiative said “Well done to all who contributed to CMETB’s ‘Green Day’, it was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the environmental causes that affect us all. There were some wonderful endeavours on the day from taking part in our green awareness quiz, to planting trees and flowers and making a commitment to be more aware of personal changes we can all make toward a Greener CMETB”

‘May Day for Sustainability’ 2022
Schools across CMETB also recently took part in Go Green initiatives.

ETBI’s ‘May Day for Sustainability took place on Tuesday May 10th and the initiative gave schools a chance to showcase their learning about Education for Sustainable Development at their school.

The initiative was part of the ETBI Take 1 Programme which supports ETB schools to communicate, raise awareness of, and embed Education for Sustainable Development as part of a broad curriculum, through the UN Sustainable Development Goals. May Day for Sustainability is particularly significant this year following the recent announcement of the addition of Climate Action and Sustainable Development to the Senior Cycle curriculum.
