Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board host ‘Standing Together’ Celebrating 3 years of Generation Apprenticeship talent and creativity
In November 2021, The Garage Theatre, hosted ‘Standing Together’ a celebration of 3 years of Generation Apprenticeship talent & creativity. Organised by SOLAS with support from the wider apprenticeship community and Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board, ‘Standing Together’ formed an inspiring backdrop for talks, presentations and discussions exploring apprenticeship careers & skills, mental health, the growth in women apprentices and tackling climate change.
Speaking at the celebration, Dr Mary-Liz Trant, Executive Director, SOLAS said “Standing Together is an ambitious awareness-building programme which showcases the wonderful A sculptures created in recent Generation Apprenticeship competitions, the skill and ability of the Irish apprentice community and why Ireland is now investing so strongly in the apprenticeship route.
We now have more than 8000 businesses around the country, in a variety of industries, creating extraordinary career opportunities through apprenticeship. With the CAO system widening to include apprenticeships and further education and training options this is an ideal time to be visiting the Monaghan Education Campus, itself an exemplar of multi-pathway education and training. We are especially grateful to Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board, the Garage Theatre team and Fiona Keenan O’Brien who will be performing a modern dance sequence exploring teamwork, leadership, creativity and problem-solving, themes that are at the core of apprenticeship.”
This unique two day event recorded the stories of apprentices, apprentice graduates, their businesses and colleges.
Standing Together was not open to the public but a limited number of schools were invited to view the sculptures. Pupils attended from Colaiste Oiriall, Beech Hill College, St. Louis Convent and St. Macartan’s College.
Among the businesses taking part are Pfizer, ESB Networks, Designer Group, King and Moffat and CDS Metalwork. Their involvement will generate significant information on apprenticeship including access to apprenticeship, the exciting careers available, information for other employers and work on the new Apprenticeship Action Plan 2021-2025.
Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board deliver apprenticeships in Original Engineering Manufacturing (OEM), Commis Chef, Accountancy, Phase 2 Electrical and is responsible for the day-to-day management of statutory apprenticeship programmes at a regional level.
